Names as recorded by Druie Butler

Around 1920, four Butler ladies gathered for this photograph to be taken near their homes off Pritchard Lane in the Utah Community between Decaturville and Perryville.  Mary and Druie were sisters;  Velma and Pearl were sisters.  These sister pairs come from different Butler families that lived next door to each other in the Utah Community.  Druie recorded the names on the back of the picture in the same handwriting that she used in a letter written in 1918.

It is not known how these two Butler families are related. The Butler family of Druie and Mary, came to Decatur Co. around 1870 and descendants continue to live there today.  The Butler family of Velma and Pearl briefly appears in the 1920 census.  No other record of this family has been found in Decatur Co.  Please contact me if you can assist in identifying the Butler line of Velma and Pearl.

In 1920, Pritchard Lane met Utah Road at the Deaturville - Perryville Highway.  Pritchard Lane no longer exists.  It was closed with the flooding of this area by the waters of Beech River when Guntersville Dam was built to create Kentucky Lake.  The path of Pritchard Lane can still be seen in aerial photographs of the Utah Commuity.
