Thomas McCoy "Coy" Butler, 72, of Florence, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness.

Visitation for Mr. Butler was 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Greenview Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday , March 20, 2008, at Underwood Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donnie McDaniel officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1 p.m. to service time. Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Bradley Wallace, Cody May, Trey May, Ethan Reynolds, Daniel Reynolds and Chris Bolden. Honorary pallbearers will be Shannon Shook, Tinker Boyd, Kevin Copus and G. W. Bates.

Mr. Butler was born in Lauderdale County and was a member of Underwood Baptist Church. He retired from the city of Florence as a supervisor and heavy equipment operator with the sanitation department.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Lee Butler, parents John W. and Mary B. Butler, sisters , Gertie Hannah, Kathleen Richardson, and Sarah Jackson, and one brother, Dalton Butler.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Era Murphy Butler, three daughters and their husbands, Sally (Junior) Gilchrist, Darlene (David) Wallace and Katrina (Greg) May, brothers, Carlos (Ruby) Butler, and Johnny (Sarah) Butler, and a sister Lila Grissom, all of Florence, grandchildren, Alison Butler, Rogersville, Leigh (Daniel) Reynolds, Amanda (Chris) Bolden, Bradley Wallace, Cody May, Ashley Wallace and Trey May, all of Florence, six very special great-grandsons who loved Papaw very much, Ethan, Christian, Devin, Landon, Grant and Clayton.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lyman Mitchell and Pam Hill for their wonderful care and kindness and also to Linda Porch and Denise Wilson, of Mid-South.
