John Garrett is listed in District 3 of the 1837 Perry Co. tax list.


In 1845, John Garrett signed the petition by the citizens of Perry County to divide the county using the Tennessee River as the western boundary for Perry County thus creating a new county west of the river - Decatur County.

From the research of Jerry Scott:

John Garrett is the brother to Wilson Garrett my gg grandfather of Bedford Co. Tenn.

John sold his share of his mother land to his brother Wilson in Bedford Co. Tenn in 1843.In the land deal it states that John Garrett of Perry Co. Tenn. A witness to this land deal in Bedford was a Moses O'Neal who was also living very close to John Garrett in Perry Co. Tenn, A friend who must have made the trip with John back to Bedford Co.to sell his share of his mother land.

Wilson sold this land by 1850 and was in Missouri in 1860 and Jefferson Co. Il. 1870. My g grandfather William R. Garrett was married in Jefferson Co. Tn in 1869 to Harrett Swain.

Wilson and John Garrett parents are Moses Garrett and Polly of Bedford Co. Tenn. No other info on Moses and Polly.

sold to Wilson Garrett land in Bedford Co. Tn. on waters of Little Flat Creek. It being
the land on which Polly Harriett died. Borders William Shock, Samuel Coldwell
and James Trible.
Wit; William B. Jones and Moses O;Neal. Reg; Feb.5, 1844.

Moses O'Neal that was a witnesses to this land deal was on the 1840 Perry Co. Census
Page 182.
