Thomas Jefferson Culp I was a Confederate veteran, having served for a short time before being discharged because of illness. He enlisted as a Private in Co. B, 2nd Regiment, Mississippi Infantry Volunteers, on 11 March 1862 at age 18. He was 5'-6, a farmer, age 18 and single when he enlisted. He was born in Marshall Co, MS. His first wife died, probably in childbirth. He was remarried when his son was only 1 year old, to Eliza Emmaline Hoover Cox, whose first husband had died leaving her with a young son. Eliza and Thomas had a daughter and she was pregnant with their son when Thomas died, 5 months before Thomas Jr. was born.
