Abstract: Daniel P. Kreer Sr, 88, died March 9 at his home. Born April 25, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He married Ruth Lee Duck of Tennessee. Mrs. Kreer preceded her husband in death, in 1986. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George Bowman (Bo) Kreer and Henry Blackstone (Pete) Kreer. Survivors include son Daniel P. Jr. (Nancy) of Monterey, Calif.; daughter Susan Carlson of Evanston; five grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.

Daniel P. Kreer, of Evanston, IL, passed away at home on March 9, 2008. Born April 15, 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA, to George William Kreer and Fay Palmer Kreer. His family moved to Winnetka in 1921. He resided there until 1990 when he moved to Evanston. Dan attended North Shore Country Day School and New Trier High School where he graduated in 1937. He then went on to Princeton University where he graduated in 1941. He was Illinois High School State Tennis Doubles Champion in 1937. He was captain of the Princeton University team and NCAA runner-up in 1941. In addition, Dan was State Table Tennis Champion in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, and New Jersey. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a Captain in the Counterintelligence Corps, also working with the OSS. At the liberation of Paris, Kreer was the first American into the city. After that he did a short mission in South America before his return to civilian life. Mr. Kreer returned to Winnetka after the war, married Ruth Lee Duck of Tennessee, and began a 40 year career in the Life Insurance business. He became the youngest Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table and was a featured speaker at many Life Insurance conventions. Dan was a member of Indian Hill Club and nine-time club tennis champion as well as a regular player in the North Shore Club League. After an injury ended his tennis career, he became a regular on the golf course. A lifelong jazz enthusiast, he always delighted in the 1937 improvisation named after his New Trier class "Big Noise From Winnetka". He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee in 1986 and his two brothers, George Bowman "Bo" Kreer and Henry Blackstone "Pete" Kreer. Survivors include son, Daniel P. Jr. (Nancy) Kreer of Monterey, CA; daughter, Susan Carlson of Evanston; grandchildren, Alyssa, Holly and Daniel P. III Kreer and David and William Carlson; niece, Linda Kreer Witt of Glenview and nephew, Tom Kreer of Lebanon, IL. A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, March 30, 2 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 2:30 p.m., at Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf Ave., Wilmette. Info. 847-251-8200.
