Alton H. Shelby, age 83, retired employee of US Steel, passed away Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at Tennessee Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN, born April 11, 1923, in Bogota, TN. Services 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006, Chapel-Johnson Funeral Home. Burial in Church Grove Cemetery, Newbern, TN. Member of The Church of Christ and U.S. Army WWII Veteran. Husband of Naomi Shelby of Newbern, TN; son of the late Josie (Weeks) Shelby and the late Willard Shelby; father-in-law of Suzanne Shelby of Dyersburg, TN; father of the late Danny Shelby, Steven Shelby (Laura) of Churchton, TN; brother of Mary Frances McIntosh of Dyersburg, TN, the late Lessie Younger, Harold Shelby and the late T.P. Shelby; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Minister, Bro. R.M. Palmer. Pallbearers, Larry Joe Maupin, Richard Shelby, Danny Shelby Jr., Gerald Younger, Jerry Shelby and Terry Shelby.
