One of Dunbar community’s oldest residents slipped from this life on May 8th, 2011. Grapel Mae Brasher died at Decatur County Hospital after an illness of about three weeks. Mrs. Brasher was the only daughter of Vester and Margaret Montgomery Patterson, born on November 8th, 1913. She was educated at Red Walnut School, where she was the member of a championship basketball team in 1931. Mrs. Brasher was a member of Red Walnut Church of Christ and one of her greatest sorrows when her vision grew poor, was the enforced absence from her beloved church. She was employed by the Decatur County Board of Education for many years. Mrs. Brasher was a talented and creative seamstress and quilter; having sewn dresses for her great granddaughters. She was a clever and articulate poet, penning her own eulogy. Other than her parents, brothers preceded her in death: Finis, Ernest and an infant. Leaving to cherish her memory are her daughter: Imalee (Harold) Montgomery, son: Robert Lynn (Ann) Brasher, granddaughter: Sheila (Billy Joe) Hill, grandson: Terry (Patricia) Brasher, great granddaughters: Courtney and Kendyl Bingham, great grandsons: Patrick (Samantha), Tyler and Parker Brasher.
