THOMAS MONTGOMERY was born 1748 in Ireland. He married MARY PATTON in 1768 (daughter of John and Jane (Davis) Patton). He came to Pennsylvania in 1768 - 1769. After 1783 he came through KY to TN. Served in the PA Militia in the Revolutionary War. Buried in Baker's Creek Cemetery in Blount County. Grave has Govt. marker, Daughters of American Revolution marked 1976. (Baker's Creek Presbyterian Church and Cemetery located 10 miles south of Maryville, just off US 411 South on Old Niles Ferry Pike near Brick Mill).

In his will, dated 4-13-1827, Thomas Montgomery left the following to:
Son, John Patton Montgomery - 152 acres of land, a yearling colt, a mare, and a harrow
Daughter, Peggy P. Montgomery - 75 acres of land including buildings and house, furniture, all farming utensils, two mares, one horse colt two years old, two cows and one heifer, three sheep, all his stock of hogs, his loom and tacklings. Peggy was to care for her mother for the remainder of her life.
Sons, David, George, William, and Samuel - One dollar each
To the lawful heirs of daughter, Susan Blithe - One dollar in property.
John P. and Peggy P. Montgomery were appointed as executors of the will.
