Shared note

Ada actually spelled her last name "Keaton", but I have noticed that several of them did that back then.

Ada was born in October 1889 in Missouri. She was the youngest daughter of Robert and Nancy (Butler) Keating. She was the younger sister of Viola and Oly.

Ada married Ira Cates (Albert's younger brother) on December 25, 1906, in Stoddard Co., MO. She passed away in January of 1920 from influenza.

The 1920 Stoddard Co. census was taken around the end of Jan, first of Feb 1920. It listed:

CATES, Ira: head of family, age 32, widowed.
" , Clarence Henry, son, age 12, born in MO, same as both parents.
" , Nellie M., daugher, age 10, also born in MO.
" , Clara V., daughter, age 7 months, also born in MO.

Ira died in mid-February 1920, on the same day as his father and another family member. In the newspaper article of the triple death in the Cates family, it said that they all three died of influenza on the same day, Ira dying only two weeks after his wife died.

I don't know what happened to all of the children, but I think they may have gone to live with Oly and May. In May's obituary, it says that she took in her two sister-in-laws' children after they died and raised the children. I know for sure that she and Oly raised Dallas after Viola passed away, but I'm not sure if the other children were Ada's or possibly from May's other side of her family. Will have to find out later. Albert Cates, Dallas' father, also died in 1920 of influenza.
