Laverne Tucker, 83, PARSONS

Icey Laverne Tucker, age 83, was born on May 23, 1920 in the Red Walnut Community of Decatur County. She was the daughter of the late Jess Tucker and Lillie Bailey Tucker.

Laverne was born into a family of educators. She began her teaching career in 1940 at Grays Chapel School, teaching with her father. She dedicated 38 years of her life to the children of Decatur County. During her teaching career, she was active in school and community organizations.

Laverne was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Parsons. She was a graduate of Decaturville High School, Lambuth College and received a Master's Degree from George Peabody College in 1954.

Laverne was a dedicated daughter and sister. She shared this same love and caring nature with extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Maxine and her two beloved brothers, Phlake and Dewayne Tucker.

She is survived by a niece, Pam Tucker Bates and husband, Tommy; a great nephew, Steve Scates and wife, Barbara; and great great nieces, Megan and Miranda Scates.

Services will be held today, May 31, 2003, 11:00 a.m., at Parsons Mortuary Chapel with Bro. Steve Elder officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
