Wayne Adkisson

Wayne Adkisson age 77 of Bath Springs, TN passed away on September 13, 2026 while at home surrounded by family. He was born June 12, 1949 and was a 1967 graduate of Riverside High School. Wayne met Roxanne Moody on a blind date in 1974 and they were married December 29, 1976. Soon after their wedding, they purchased the original Adkisson family farm in Bath Springs, TN where they raised their two sons Doug and Steve. Wayne found the most joy in spending time with his family. He spent many nights at the baseball field, coaching his sons’ little league teams. The only joy that equaled spending time with his sons was being with his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Grumps”. He loved attending their ball games, school events, and going on family trips. Wayne was a lifelong fan of the TN Vols. He liked watching games with his family, was a big story and joke teller, and loved to eat a good steak anytime he could.

Wayne was always supportive of his community. He served on the original board for the Decatur County Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in establishing the Decatur County Public Library in Decaturville, TN. An original supporter of the Decatur County Education Foundation, he valued education and was an early contributor to the UT Martin Parsons campus.

He was drafted into the US Army in April 1969 and served in Fort Gordon, GA as a military police officer. He supervised the game and wildlife reserve until April 1971. Upon finishing his military career, on a flight home after being bumped to first class, it was through a chance encounter with a college professor that Wayne decided to attend college on the GI Bill. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1975 with a degree in Agriculture Business. His first job was a farm credit officer at Production Credit Association, and he held this position for 9 years. With lessons learned through lending and business, he decided to capitalize on an opportunity when Mid South Ready Mix became available for sale in 1983. He operated and grew the business until he ventured into building materials. Wayne purchased Buck Building Supply in Scotts Hill in 1997 and expanded to Decaturville and Parsons in the years to come. He later sold Mid South Ready Mix to focus on Buck Building Supply and other construction opportunities. In 2014, he retired to focus on his true passion of farming and raising cattle. His family thinks he was most proud of having the only crop of over 40 feeder horses in the state of Tennessee.

Wayne was saved as a child and raised his family at Old Center Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. The last several years he and his wife attended Corinth Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Roxanne Adkisson, two sons Doug Adkisson (Chasity) of Brentwood, TN and Steve Adkisson (Ashley) of Lexington, TN. He adored his grandchildren, Kaidance Kolb, Barrett and Hatcher Adkisson, Wynsley and Elleston Adkisson. He is also survived by his brother and best friend Gary (Eddie) Adkisson, and sister Sheila (Mike) Cox and many loved brother in laws, sister in laws and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Nellie Adkisson.

Visitation will be held Tuesday September 15, 2026 from 2-9pm and Wednesday 9-11am with service at 11:00. All visitation and service will be held at Reed’s Chapel in Decaturville, TN.
