BRISTOL, VA - Howard L. Butler, 85, of Bristol, VA and formerly of Jacksonville, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Bristol Nursing Home. Graveside funeral services, with full military honors, will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Pastor James Asher officiating.

Mr. Butler was a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the USMC. He was a son of the late Jessie M. Butler and Catherine Thornton Butler and was also preceded in death by a sister, Jesse Mae Jones.

Survivors include three daughters, Diane Thomas of Verona, Arlyne Bates of Jacksonville and Emily Butler of Beaufort; two sons, Phillip Wayne Butler of Waynesville and Christopher Butler of Beaufort; and one brother, Ben Jackson Butler of Bristol, VA.
